ELDT Theory Now! / Course selection

Which ELDT theory course should I take?

Start with the license you hold today and the vehicle or endorsement you need next. Your employer’s job title alone does not identify the right course. Confirm the path with the licensing agency before you enroll.

Choose by license or endorsement

First Class A CDL
Choose this path if you are pursuing your first Class A license to operate a qualifying combination vehicle.
First Class B CDL
Choose this path if you are pursuing a first Class B license for a qualifying straight truck or bus. A bus job can also require an endorsement.
Upgrade Class B to Class A
If you already hold a Class B CDL, confirm with your provider whether the Class B-to-A upgrade curriculum applies to your record.
Passenger endorsement and school bus endorsement
A first-time passenger or school bus endorsement has its own curriculum. For a school bus job, ask your licensing agency which passenger and school bus requirements apply to you.
Hazardous materials endorsement
HazMat ELDT is theory-only. A first-time HazMat applicant must complete applicable theory before the endorsement knowledge test. The separate security assessment and fingerprinting follow the government’s enrollment process.

Does completing theory also cover range and road?

For applicable Class A, Class B, passenger and school bus paths, theory and behind-the-wheel training are separate. A behind-the-wheel provider evaluates the required range and public-road proficiency. ELDT Theory Now offers online theory. Confirm driving arrangements and your DPS test appointment separately.
