How to Check Your ELDT Completion Record Before a Texas CDL Test

By ELDT Theory Now · Published October 17, 2026 · Reviewed October 17, 2026

Find your official training record, check that it matches your licensing goal and resolve missing information before test day.

Finishing a lesson or driving assessment and having the required ELDT record available to the licensing agency are separate milestones. Before a test that requires ELDT completion, check the official record rather than relying only on a receipt, course-dashboard message or certificate saved on your phone.

The FMCSA Training Provider Registry is the system providers use to submit successful training completion and licensing agencies use to verify it. This guide explains how to organize that check and follow up when something appears missing.

Open the official “Check Your Record” tool

Go directly to FMCSA's Check Your Record page. The form asks for your license or permit number, issuing state, date of birth and first and last names. Enter the details exactly as they appear on your credential. Use your own information and read the certification shown before submitting the lookup.

You do not need to register as a training provider to check your own record. The Registry's explanation of driver and provider roles makes that distinction clear. Keep your identifying information within the official tool; a public blog or social-media comment is not an appropriate place to request a lookup.

Confirm which training the record represents

FMCSA describes completion information as including the license class or endorsement, training type, provider identification and completion date. Compare the record with the training you actually completed and the credential you are seeking. A theory record should not be treated as proof that a separate behind-the-wheel requirement is complete.

Keep a short personal checklist with separate entries for:

If your plan involves different theory and driving providers, contact the provider responsible for the missing component. Our behind-the-wheel range and road information and theory-and-driving planning article explain why those steps should be tracked separately.

Allow for the reporting deadline, then follow up

The official record-check page states that providers must submit completion information by midnight of the second business day after training is completed. This is a reporting deadline, not a promise that the record will appear immediately after your last activity. Weekends and holidays matter when counting business days.

If the expected record is absent, recheck the identifying details you entered. Then ask your provider to confirm the submission, the training type and the credential information used. Keep the response with your completion records. If a correction is needed, use the provider's established support process and check the Registry again after the correction is submitted.

FMCSA's completion-verification FAQ explains that a driver cannot take the applicable test until the provider's information is submitted and the licensing state accesses it. A provider's late report does not create a substitute for that verification.

Check the rest of your Texas appointment requirements

Texas DPS's CDL application instructions explain the CLP holding period and applicable ELDT requirements before skills testing. Checking a training record does not replace checking your permit, appointment, required documents or suitable test vehicle.

Before arranging travel, ask the testing office about any unresolved record issue. Keep the appointment confirmation and your provider's contact information accessible. This is especially useful when you are coordinating a rental or traveling a long distance for the test.
